Sick Days and The Wandering Goose

Some of you probably know already, but it's been a sick week for us over here. Last week, I wasn't feeling too well for a few days and Nathan woke up from a mysterious fever and chills one night. Then it sort of went away...until Tuesday morning when both Z and N woke up feeling extra sick. We went to see a doctor, skipped preschool for the week and cancelled all of our social events with family and friends. I'm not going to lie, it's been a hard couple of days for all of us. There have been so many moments where I thought I was going to lose it. Being stuck at home and not feeling well means we don't sleep well, and we annoy and frustrate one another more than usual. Judging from the high frequency of my frustrated texts to Gary, my parenting lesson for the week can be summed up nicely in three words: patience, acceptance, and low expectations ;)

With that being said, I am extra thankful for our nanny this week. She helps out so much by not only taking good care of the kids but also our home while I'm gone. She tries so hard to lighten up our burden, and her effort is always much appreciated, but especially so on hard days like these. She told me today that she felt like crying when she thought about not seeing the kids regularly later this year. She truly has been a huge blessing to our family and I'm going to be so sad to see her go after spring quarter.

Before we went to the doctor's Tuesday morning. Crying Izzy was so tired that she passed out before we got in the car.
Yesterday morning I decided to take the kids out for some fresh air before their medicine wore off (we alternate between tylenol and motrin for them, which has been somewhat helpful for fevers and general fussiness.) We came to The Wandering Goose in Capitol Hill and spent some quiet time reading and drawing together. It was a short visit as Nay's temperature went up again soon after we sat down, but it was, however, a very sweet one still.

colorful pastry case. they have real food there too, though we didn't get to try any this time.

I was hoping to try a layered sprinkle cake as our second breakfast but there wasn't any. I didn't mind we had to get a biscuit instead though :)

Love the words on the tables there.

Naynay was very interested in these little red fruits on the sidewalk. He was telling me "these are for birds!"
Before I forget, I wanted to say thank you to all the lovely people who have commented or given me feedback on this blog - you all are too sweet and I absolutely love hearing from you (and I miss some of you terribly). Also, a big hug and thank you to everyone who has been thinking about and praying for us this week. Zoey has been getting better each day, but poor Nay still has a mild fever and is very snotty and coughing a lot. Izzy got her 6-month shots plus a flu shot this morning and she is not feeling well. She's been crying and crying pretty much all night, even when we're holding her. It just breaks my heart seeing her so uncomfortable :( Sigh, I'm so very thankful it's almost the weekend though! Hope you all are staying healthy, wherever you are!
