A Morning Out With My Boy

3/16/2015

Two weeks ago, when I took Zoey out on a tea time date, Naynay was really sad that he wasn't part of the plan. He whimpered and begged to come along (that afternoon Gary took Nay and Izzy to a park instead to do some hiking and play with sand, which Naynay really loved actually :)

It really has been quite awhile since I went out alone with Nathan, though. We used to do it all the time when Zoey was in school and Izzy was still in my belly, and it saddened me a little realizing I haven't done it at all with him since Izzy was born (whereas I've taken his sister out quite a few times.) So this past week I've been thinking about different ideas for our mom-son date, and thanks to my loving and supportive husband, we got away for a few hours this Saturday morning. Naynay and I went on a bus ride together to downtown Seattle, and spent 3 hours wandering around town - I'm lucky I've got a great walker with me!

We missed the bus by 30 seconds so we had to wait for another 15 minutes at the bus stop. He was so patient and just happily waiting with me
We stopped by Cupcake Royale before we ate lunch (our excuse was it was too windy, haha. seriously though, we almost got blown away walking from westlake to pike place!) and then we came to The Bear and The Bee and shared a pulled pork sandwich. The whole morning everyone was commenting on how awesome his Husky hat was and just how cute he was overall. (I don't disagree ;)

a chocolate babycake for him, a big carrot walnut for mama

walked to belltown to try this sandwich shop! and nay's hat and those rain boots...his daily staple

Being silly and taking selfies with mama

he brought along some toys on our date out (a thermometer, a lego car and a tiger)
Picture
a very guilty pleasure but we loved the onion rings in the sandwich. want to come back here with the other 3 sometime
Naynay's been talking about the aquarium and how we haven't gone in a long, long time (but really we just went 3 weeks ago). So we walked through Pike Place Market, checked out some seafood (ocean animals are his favorite), showed him the famous gum wall (he was like, can i eat some?!), and looked at sharks and seals at the aquarium.
Picture
He asks me hard questions like "why are they dead? why do we have to kill them" while looking at these
Picture
i promised him next time he could stick his gum on this wall too if he wanted to (chances are he won't want to spit out his gum though. it's his favorite thing to do...chewing gum)
Picture
he could sit here and spot sharks all day long if we let him
Picture
see that red thing naynay's holding? it's the toy thermometer. he kept that in his pocket and took out occasionally to take pictures for me. according to him, it's also a camera
After the aquarium, Gary and the girls came to pick us up and took us home. I love this man and how supportive and loving and considerate he is. Because of him, these precious dates with our littles are made possible. Also, have I mentioned how easy and stress-free it is to go out with just one kid? Such a nice break :) As for Naynay, he was so different when it was just the two of us together. So gentle, so sweet, and so easygoing. I think it was a date long overdue for him, too :)
